Can't guarantee this works for everyone but as a person who has had a screwed knee since early in life it works for me.
When my knee is causing hassle I wear a knee support to take some of the strain off the actual joint. It does wonder for what I can do. They only cost a few quid from boots. Of course they cut down on mobility of your knee so if your looking to do flexing exercises they wont help.
