I don't write much on LJ. So let's have a bit of a rundown on recent things:

Going to Bradford:

That was cool, I did some things I hadn't done before, I learnt some things about myself and taught a class for the first time (I have thick teacher blood). Specifically I was teaching people how to use machinima. I was pretty good at explaining how everything worked to those that needed it, (though could work on the outgoing-ness).

Many of the teach-ees didn't "need it", there were some kids there who were instant directors, and it was good to hear people saying "wanna make some machinima this Friday?" on the way out.

The festival staff were a laugh, we shared our working with computers/directors stories, (Cube of Doom, etc.) whilst they were on a break from lifting stuff/frantically networking, the staff being mainly beginning animators or recent animation graduates.

Hugh and Jonny's talk went well by all accounts. I wish I could have seen it, I was minding the stall at the time. All in all, the cause of Machinima was served, and I think we all had a good time as well.

Being in Leeds for Birthday:

Yes, I am 27! I decided to celebrate in Leeds this year as it made it the first time in eight years. I went to the pub with my pals Johnny and John, and we talked about how we were doing, and got back into the stream of abuse that is our friendship pretty quickly; I'm looking forward to seeing those guys at Christmas.

I then met up with my old pal Big Dan, who I talked at for the rest of the night (I was somewhat ashamed of my talking-at antics, but he's a good fella, so he won't take it badly).

The actual birthday was a quiet affiar with me, my sister Catherine, who was quiet and tired) and my parents at a fairly average chinese restaurant. It was nice to be with family again.

Anime Soc:

I wonder how Alexandre Dumas would have felt to know that his great novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" had been remade by the Japanese with a blue vampire as The Count, and all the other countries being other planets (Rome is the Moon with a skull carved in it), with a strong vein of homoeroticism added for good measure. I thought it was pretty good, but marred by stylistic misunderstandings. I now really want to read the original.

There was a meal on Thursday and all, in "Bonsai", which I had perceptively enough assumed to be a Chinese restaurant (who would have thought that the Anime Society would go to a Japanese place for their christmas meal?). That was pretty nice and friendly, as AnimeSoc tends to be, though I still don't understand why they think hoodies are good.

Work:

It's great! We're going to have de-localised training! We're to have web cams which are going to let us see the trainers, and the trainers see us. We can be trained at our desks!

My (ever tech-savvy) employers have maybe not considered that it may take longer to set up the web-cams and audio stuff than it would take for all to walk the 20 metres to the training rooms, but I bow to their superior judgement. Either way, they are trying to embrace the big shiny corporate future, and the sooner I'm working from home the better (though these days, I'd kinda miss my colleauges).

Anyway, sorry about the huge post, it was to make up for total absence of posts in general, and it wasn't my normal diet of quickly-made-private angst. So there.
